The University of Rio Grande's Ester Allen Greer museum is having an art exhibit now through Dec. 15. The works were created by Marshall University's faculty and students. A majority of the exhibit is made up of illustrative pieces. A personal favorite of mine is the Three Stooges piece. The hours of the gallery are Tues through Sat 1pm-5pm.

Event-Concert

I attended the University of Rio Grande's Rock Ensemble performance that took place Nov. 27. The performance took place at the Berry Fine and Performing Arts Center and was directed by faculty member Dr. Chris Kenney. The band performed works by such artists as The Yardbirds, Frank Zappa, The Grateful Dead, The Jam, and last but not least Jimi Hendrix. It was interesting because the members of the band would switch off on the guitar. If anyone is interested, the Rock Ensemble group will probably be having a performance this spring.

Event-Art Show

I was recently in Lancaster and I found that there was an art exhibit. The art exhibit was called "Ohio Collects Native American Art". The exhibit showcased private and public collections of Native American art throughout the state of Ohio. It was neat to see all of the baskets, rugs, jewelry and ceramic pieces from Native American Culture. I was really impressed. The exhibit ends January 6, 2007 so you still have time. I have included information for those who are interested.

Event- Dance

I recently viewed the Documentary "Breakin vs. Krumpin". It showed the life and "battles" of people who practice the two styles of African American dancing. These dancers come from many different walks of life, and they have a deep passion for dancing. The dancers seem to break the laws of physics with their various styles of dancing. They show great dedication to these forms of expression. Krumping is a relatively new form of dance that is characterized by free, expressive, and highly energetic moves. This form of dance started in southern Los Angeles. Break Dancing is the dancing that we have all seen since the 80's. I ask everyone to check their TV listings and watch this film. If it is not on TV rent it.
Event-Architecture

A while ago I had the chance to visit the Wescott House in Springfield, Ohio. This is a Prairie-style house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Besides the house, there is a carriage house on the grounds. The house originally belonged to Burton J. Wescott but has since changed hand numerous times until it was bought by the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy. Since 2005, the house has been open to the public and tours are available. For those who don't know Frank Lloyd Wright is an American architect who is regarded as the greatest architect of our time. I ask that anyone with an interest of architecture see this beautiful home.

Event- Art Show

I went to a art show in Tamarack, West Virginia. For the people who don't know,Tamarack is the nation's first statewide collection of handmade craft, art and cuisine showcasing The Best of West Virginia. From furniture to glass, or pottery to Appalachian quilts, Tamarack features West Virginia's best handcrafts, regional specialty foods, live performances, craft demonstrations and theater. I saw a art show at the David L. Dickirson Fine Arts Gallery titled "Celebrating Wildlife". This gallery is part of Tamarak. This show was up my alley because I really enjoy scenic views of land and wilflife. The show ended the 11th of November, but they will be having more shows if anyone is interested. You can check online at http://www.tamarackwv.com/.
Event-Film viewing

I recently viewed the film "Darkon". "Darkon" is a documentary about the Darkon Wargaming Club in Baltimore, Maryland, a group of fantasy live-action-role-playing gamers. The film has already won numerous awards. "Darkon" is very entertaining, because you get to see grown men dressing up like knights and wizards and fighting in the neighborhoods of Baltimore. These guys will make their own weapons out of foam and wood, and they make castles out of plywood. I found it interesting that these guys talk so passionately about this lifestyle. They have put so much time into thinking up history of this imaginary world and the plans for their battles. If anyone wants to see a interesting and sometimes funny movie, then you should watch "Darkon". It will be playing throughout the month of November on IFC.
